Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiac Telemetry

Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our Cardiac Telemetry unit. This position involves providing high-quality care to patients with various cardiac conditions, managing complex medical situations, and demonstrating proficiency in cardiac telemetry skills.

Essential Responsibilities

• Monitor cardiac telemetry patients and interpret dysrhythmias.
• Provide care for post-myocardial infarction (MI) and pre/post cardiac catheterization patients.
• Manage cardiac drips, including titration as needed.
• Facilitate sheath removal and manage external CPAP/BIPAP as well as nasal cannula.
• Handle chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac) and basic airway management.
• Conduct wound care and manage arterial lines when necessary.
• Participate in a Storm Team or Hurricane Team as required.

Patient Population

Patients may include those with various cardiac conditions such as:

• Atrial Fibrillation
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
• Aortic Stenosis/Regurgitation
• Mitral Regurgitation/Stenosis
• Endocarditis
• Cardiomyopathy
• Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)/Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

Special Procedures

The unit is involved in a variety of specialized cardiac and thoracic procedures, including:

• Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
• Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR)
• Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR)
• Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
• Mitral Clip procedures
• Carotid Endarterectomy
• VATS

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cardiac floor required.
• Traveler experience is preferred unless the candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience.
• Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
• Preferred skills include arterial line management, wound care/wound vac experience, and charge nurse experience.

Work Schedule

• Shift: Nights (3 x 12-hour shifts per week)
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekends every 4 weeks (flexible)
• Orientation: 24 hours

Unit Details

The nurse-to-patient ratio varies based on acuity, with a typical ratio of 1:4 for surgical step-down and 1:5-6 for lower acuity patients. Nurses will follow unit rotation and are not the first to float.

Necessary Equipment and Systems

• Proficiency with equipment such as arterial lines, Doppler, EKG, and chest tubes.
• Familiarity with documentation and communication systems, including Pyxis and EPIC.
