Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Strong cardiac telemetry background, preferably 2 years. Ability to decrease cardiac drips per physician's orders and parameters. Description: This position requires telemetry skills. Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start, with a maximum of 2 attempts. Failure to pass will result in a 6-month Do Not Use status. There is a PASS/FAIL simulation lab on the first day of orientation. Failure will result in being sent home and a 6-month Do Not Use status. The unit typically manages patients waiting for placement on a unit. Patients are primarily medical-surgical/telemetry. RNs will primarily care for telemetry patients. RNs are required to titrate drips as directed by physician’s orders. Common titratable drips include Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone. Nurses will work with patient care technicians available. There is no respiratory equipment such as vents in this unit. Nurses must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips. Shifts are 12 hours, either from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM. Self-scheduling is available; however, it may change periodically. There is a requirement for 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule. Holiday rotation will take place with permanent staff. No call or standby requirement is expected. Nurses may float to medical/surgical/telemetry and overflow units as necessary. Each nurse will care for patients from the emergency room. Additional duties may include taking vitals, initiating IVs, and administering medications. Nurses will not be the primary RN for emergency department patient assignments. The cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled per 13-week assignment. Charting system used is Cerner. A BSN is not required for this position. This is an acute care setting. The department operates within the nursing division. Shifts are represented in a night schedule including weekend shifts and holiday rotations.
