Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of recent experience in a telemetry setting. Travel nurses will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of receiving an offer. A PASS/FAIL simulation lab will be conducted on the first day of orientation, with study guides provided. Nurses will primarily care for ED holds who are waiting for placement on a medical-surgical or telemetry unit. A strong background in cardiac telemetry is essential, including the ability to decrease cardiac drips per physician's orders and parameters. The nurse-to-patient ratio will be 1 to 4. Charged duties will be performed by the designated charge nurse. Nurses must be capable of reading and interpreting EKG strips, as there will be no monitor technicians available. Shifts are scheduled as 12 hours long, from 7 am to 7 pm or 7 pm to 7 am. Nurses will self-schedule, though scheduling may change as needed. Weekend shifts include 4 shifts within a 4-week schedule. Holiday shifts will rotate among permanent staff. There is no call requirement for this position. Floating to medical-surgical, telemetry, overflow units, and EDs may be necessary. Nurses may assist with tasks related to ED patients, including vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration, although they will not be primary RNs for ED patient assignments. The cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment.
