Strong cardiac telemetry background.
Ability to decrease cardiac drips per physician orders and parameters.
Description:
This is a telemetry position requiring telemetry skills.
Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start.
Only two attempts are allowed for this exam.
If travelers fail the exam, they will be made a DNU for 6 months.
There will be a PASS/FAIL SIM LAB on the first day of orientation.
Failure in this lab will result in being sent home and a DNU for 6 months.
Nurses will be caring for patients from the emergency department who are waiting for a bed in the hospital.
Common diagnoses include various medical and telemetry cases.
The nurse to patient ratio is 1 to 4.
Common titratable or set rate drips include Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone.
Nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips.
There are no monitor techs in the unit.
Nurses are expected to float to other units and overflow areas as needed.
Weekend shifts require a commitment of 4 weekends in a 4-week schedule.
Holiday rotation is required with permanent staff members.
There is no call or standby requirement.
Assistance with emergency department patients may be expected, including taking vitals, IV starts, and medication administration.
Nurses will not be primary RNs for emergency department patient assignments.
The charting system used is Cerner.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed within the scope of practice.
