Description:
The unit has 36 beds.
Patient ratios are 4:1 with cath recovery, maximum of 6:1 ratio.
At times, the ratio may be stretched to 7:1.
Unit staffing includes Patient Care Technicians on day and night shifts, and Unit Clerks on day shift.
Equipment includes remote telemetry monitors and Alaris pumps.
Documentation is managed through the Meditech system.
Every other weekend scheduling is required.
Agency floats first may occur, including floating to orthopedic and medical-surgical units.
Aiming for a 75% patient satisfaction rate is essential.
Advanced skills in chest tube care and procedures performed include chest tube insertions, bedside paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
The required uniform is any scrubs except camo.
Unit-specific policies include Telemetry Monitoring Policy and Stroke Policy.
The department has received awards, including the Daisy and Bee award certificates.
There is a monthly STAR award winner voted on by staff members.
