Job Title: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival. Strong skills in wound management, JP drains, wound vacs, hemodialysis catheter care, fistulas, PCA, and pain management are essential. Description: This is a brand new medical surgical/telemetry unit for a growing facility. There are many educational opportunities available to travelers. Common patient types include sepsis, cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, COVID, and pneumonia. Occasionally, the unit will see post-operative overflow cases such as total joints (knees, hips, shoulders) and GI/abdominal surgeries (hemicolectomies, bowel resections, etc.). Patient ratios are RN: 1:5-6 and CNA: 2 per shift, unless the census does not require it. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse, a Health Unit Coordinator/Secretary during the day shift, and in-house phlebotomy services. RNs may also draw CVL/PICC/Midline lines. An IV/VAT team is available from 7 AM to 3 PM for PICC placement. A Hospitalist is available in-house for most patients. Charting is conducted using an EMR system. The unit employs Alaris pumps for IV management and Pyxis for medication dispensing. Travelers may float to any medical-surgical area within the hospital. Scheduling includes a mandatory weekend rotation every other week, working 4 days one week and 3 days the next. Requests for time off are limited to 7 days, and only one weekend of time off can be requested per contract period. Travelers will be expected to work 2 or 3 holidays during the contract. Scrub color is pewter, and T-shirts must be gray, white, or black with an approved monogram. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges must be worn above the waist in full view at all times.
