The SICU's population includes trauma patients, CV surgery patients, neurosurgery patients, and other complicated surgical patients. Responsibilities include the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, arterial line management, and blood product administration. Common diagnoses include acute ventilator need, high O2 demand, DKA, severe sepsis, unstable GI bleed, trauma cases, open heart recovery, multi-system organ failure, and CRRT needs. Patient ratios are 1:2-3, appropriate to skill level and acuity. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Floating to meet facility needs is expected. Care for a diverse adult and geriatric patient population. Daily census averages around 30. This position requires skills such as ventilator management, central line care, and procedural sedation administration. The unit operates as a mixed MICU/SICU with specific procedures completed at the bedside. Special equipment used includes Swan catheters, CRRT machines, and ventilators. Experience in a level II trauma center is required. Certified as a top cardiovascular surgery center, this role provides opportunities to work with comprehensive interdisciplinary support.
