Job Title: Registered Nurse - Surgical Intensive Care Unit Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Surgical Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Early recognition of changes in patient condition - Clear communication and escalation with providers - Critical thinking skills - Experience with CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, ventilators, and various drains/surgical sites - Ability to titrate various drips such as vasopressin, epinephrine, and dobutamine Description: Candidates must be open to floating between units. The unit is busy and operates as a Level 1 Trauma facility. Flexibility in scheduling is required as self-scheduling is not available. Every other weekend commitment is required. Successful candidates typically have 3 or more years of experience, previous travel experience, and a history of working in busy hospital environments. The unit consists of 12 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 depending on patient acuity and emergency admissions. Registered Nurses are expected to read their own telemetry strips as there are no monitor techs on the unit. There is a charge nurse on each shift who may take a full assignment, depending on staffing needs. Intermittent nurse aids or patient care techs are available based on census, with a ratio of 1:12 when present. An Intensivist is available in-house 24/7, and there are advanced practice providers on the unit continuously. Respiratory therapy services are also available on-site 24/7. The dress code includes teal bottoms and black or printed coordinating scrub tops, with specific guidelines for nail polish and personal appearance to maintain professionalism. Fourth shifts may be canceled based on the needs of the unit. Shifts are scheduled based on the unit's requirements, and there may be a requirement for weekend coverage.
