- Weekly Pay:$1,850 to $2,050
Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill surgical and post-operative patients
- Perform detailed head-to-toe assessments and continuously monitor patients for changes in condition
- Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen saturation, neurological status, and other critical indicators
- Assess patients following major surgical procedures and identify potential complications early
- Monitor hemodynamic status and recognize subtle changes requiring immediate intervention
- Manage central lines, arterial lines, drains, chest tubes, catheters, wound sites, and other critical-care devices
- Provide care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, antibiotics, pain medications, and other prescribed treatments safely
- Monitor continuous medication infusions and titrate therapies according to provider orders and facility protocols
- Provide specialized post-operative care following complex abdominal, vascular, thoracic, trauma, or other major surgical procedures
- Monitor surgical wounds, incisions, drains, and tubes for bleeding, infection, and other complications
- Recognize signs of sepsis, hemorrhage, respiratory failure, shock, and other critical conditions
- Respond promptly to codes, rapid responses, and other clinical emergencies
- Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with bedside procedures and critical-care interventions
- Provide pain, sedation, and comfort management
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, diagnoses, treatment plans, recovery, and ongoing care
- Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, CNAs, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Follow infection prevention, medication safety, HIPAA, and patient safety standards
- Participate in quality-improvement and evidence-based critical-care initiatives
Qualifications
- Active Texas Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Minimum 2 years of recent SICU/ICU nursing experience
- Current BLS Certification required
- Current ACLS Certification required
- PALS Certification preferred or required by facility
- Strong knowledge of surgical critical-care nursing principles
- Experience caring for high-acuity surgical and post-operative patients
- Experience with mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support
- Experience with central lines, arterial lines, drains, chest tubes, and invasive monitoring
- Knowledge of critical-care medication infusions and protocols
- Strong understanding of post-operative complications and emergency interventions
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Excellent clinical judgment, assessment, and critical-thinking skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to remain calm and effective in a high-acuity environment
- Comfortable working night shifts
