Registered Nurse (RN) – Vent Unit

Duration: 13 Weeks
Location: 321 Genesee St, Oneida, NY 13421
Schedule: Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3×12-hour shifts | 36 hours/week
Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend
Holiday/On-Call: As Required by Unit Needs

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join an 11-bed Ventilator Unit. The ideal candidate will have prior Ventilator Unit or ICU experience and be comfortable providing direct patient care while supervising LPNs and CNAs to ensure quality care delivery.

Unit Details

  • 11-bed Ventilator Unit
  • Ventilator or ICU experience required
  • Respiratory Therapist (RRT) available on the unit
  • Lead Respiratory Therapist on-site for additional support

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care in accordance with physician orders and individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
  • Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatment.
  • Supervise, delegate, and evaluate the work of LPNs and CNAs.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.
  • Enter physician orders into the electronic medical record and communicate with the pharmacy as needed.
  • Participate in patient care planning, interdisciplinary meetings, and discharge planning.
  • Assist with wound care, respiratory support, and other nursing procedures as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with medication administration, narcotic counts, controlled substance policies, and documentation standards.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition, exercise clinical judgment, and notify the appropriate provider promptly.
  • Document incidents, medication errors, and changes in patient status according to facility policy.
  • Provide patient and family education while maintaining compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) when needed, including hygiene, bathing, feeding, and incontinence care.
  • Report safety concerns, emergencies, and suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with facility policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted New York Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
  • Previous Ventilator Unit or ICU experience required.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to supervise and support LPNs and CNAs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Schedule Requirements

  • Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holidays and on-call coverage as needed by the unit
