Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Rehabilitation Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year experience License: Active Illinois license required or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Strong Neuro skills Description: The unit has 29 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1 during the day and 6:1 at night. Common diagnoses include neuro conditions, neurosurgery cases, amputations, multi-trauma, cardiac issues, and complex medical cases. The unit does not require nurses to titrate drips, except for heparin. The unit may have telemetry, but it is not monitored by RNs. Registered Nurses are required to attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehabilitation. House supervisors are present, but there are no charge nurses. Nurse aides work on the unit with a ratio of 1:9 or 1:10. Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy services are available. Respiratory therapy equipment used includes CPAP and BiPAP at night for sleep apnea. Nurses may float to long-term acute care or medical-surgical units, but will only float to specific units if trained. Day shifts are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Every other weekend and holiday rotation is required. Scrubs of any color are permitted, but t-shirts must be approved. The orientation process includes a 2-day class followed by 2-3 days with a preceptor. Learning specific documentation related to rehabilitation is necessary. Charting is done using an electronic system.
