Registered Nurse (RN) - Psychiatric Adult

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Psychiatric Unit. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care and support to adult patients with various psychiatric diagnoses in an acute setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Monitor patient behavior, medication adherence, and overall mental health status.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations and minimize the use of restraints.
• Administer medications, injections, and conduct phlebotomy as needed.
• Conduct safety checks, vitals monitoring, and perform essential patient care tasks, including ADLs.
• Document patient progress and participate in treatment planning and discharge processes.
• Support and mentor nursing staff and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in their duties.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Psychiatric Unit - Adult
• Bed Capacity: 26 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
  • Days: 4 RNs (1:6-7)
  • Nights: 3 RNs (1:8)

Qualifications

• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required.
• Preferred: CPI certification (training available on-site).
• A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience is required.
• At least 6 months of prior medical experience in areas such as MS, MS-Tele, PCU, ICU, or ER is required.

Work Environment

• Registered Nurses may be placed in charge roles during shifts with ongoing unit support.
• The unit features a collaborative atmosphere focused on patient engagement and safety.
• Rotate weekends and holidays, with weekend coverage required every other weekend.

Orientation and Training

New Registered Nurses will receive 2-4 days of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor, with opportunities to float to multiple units as needed.

Additional Information

• No on-call or standby requirements, but flexibility may be needed for emergency shifts.
• Uniforms: RNs will wear Royal Blue scrubs.
