Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Psychiatric Unit. This role involves providing care to patients with severe mental health issues in an acute care environment. The ideal candidate will have strong de-escalation skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and major depressive disorder.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to address patient needs and formulate effective care plans.
  • Administer medications (oral and IM) and monitor patient responses while maintaining accurate records.
  • Conduct assessments and engage with patients to promote a therapeutic environment.
  • Implement crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to ongoing patient management discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and patient care standards.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • At least one year of experience in psychiatric nursing.
  • Preferred experience in medical-surgical, telemetry, or critical care settings.
  • Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Certification in de-escalation methods (Handle with Care, TRUST Training, CPI, PMCS, or MOAB) is mandatory before start date.

Work Environment

The psychiatric unit comprises 40 beds, with patients requiring acute mental health interventions. Nursing staff will work in various sections, including adult and adolescent care, to meet the dynamic needs of the unit.

Staffing and Support

  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6-12, varying based on patient acuity.
  • A robust support team is available, including psychiatric physicians and patient care technicians.
  • Access to respiratory therapy services and essential medical equipment on-site.

Schedule and Requirements

  • Guaranteed hours of 34.5 hours per week, with shifts typically lasting 12 hours.
  • Availability to work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotations as needed.
  • Must be flexible to float to different units as necessary.
