Registered Nurse (RN) - Behavioral Health

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality care within a Behavioral Health unit. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a range of mental health conditions in both adults and geriatric patients. This position requires strong clinical skills in a variety of indications related to mental health diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in an inpatient setting, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans.
• Administer medications and monitor patient responses, including antianxiety medications, antidepressants, and antipsychotics.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies to ensure patient safety and support therapeutic environments.
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including psych techs, therapy teams, and nursing personnel to facilitate patient care.
• Maintain thorough documentation through the use of electronic medical records (EPIC) and communicate effectively using SBAR protocols.
• Participate in crisis interventions, managing emergent situations while maintaining patient dignity and safety.
• Engage in psychoeducation sessions and provide support to patients and families.
• Adhere to seclusion protocols and procedures as necessary to ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required; first-time travelers will be considered.
• Experience in behavioral health, including knowledge of various mental health disorders such as PTSD, bipolar disorder, and substance use conditions.
• Current certification in MOAB required.
• Ability to provide care in high-acuity environments, including locked units.
• Experience with medication administration, wound care, and monitoring vital signs.
• Preferred skills include experience with congenital/developmental disorders and proficiency in starting and maintaining IVs.

Work Schedule

• Shifts: Night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
• 36-48 hours per week.
• Every other weekend availability required.
• Floating to medical-surgical units may be required as needed.

Unit Details

This behavioral health unit operates over two floors. Registered Nurses will rotate between different areas of care and acuity levels. Support staff, including therapy teams and psych techs, are available seven days a week to assist in patient management and group activities. Continuous clinical support is available for nursing staff, ensuring a collaborative work environment.

Orientation and Training

• Comprehensive orientation program of 32 hours will be provided.
• Training on unit-specific protocols and procedures, including the use of patient monitoring tools and safety equipment.

Scrubs

Uniforms: Navy blue scrubs are required.
