Adult Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Adult Psychiatric Registered Nurse to join our team. This position involves working on a 30-bed unit specializing in the care of adults aged 18 to 65 who are experiencing diverse mental health issues.

Unit Overview

The unit provides essential treatment for a range of conditions, including:

Anxiety and depression
Suicidal ideation
Schizophrenia
Bipolar disorder
Borderline personality disorder
Dual diagnosis cases

Additionally, the unit accommodates some medically acute patients requiring specialized care (e.g., IVs, CPAPs, wound care, and diabetes management).

Key Responsibilities

Assess and manage psychiatric and medical conditions of patients.
Utilize automatic medication dispensing systems (Omni Cell) proficiently.
Administer psychotropic medications while monitoring and addressing side effects.
Serve as charge nurse when required.
Conduct patient admissions and discharges efficiently.
Provide competent care for diabetic patients and utilize IV pumps as necessary.

Qualifications

Must possess an active RN license in Massachusetts.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
A minimum of 2 years of inpatient adult psychiatric nursing experience.

Work Environment

The clinician-to-patient ratio is approximately 1 RN to 7 or 8 patients. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including nights and rotating shifts.

Additional Information

Floating to other units may be required based on unit needs. The electronic medical records system used for charting is EPIC.
