Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) who is comfortable in both inpatient and Psychiatric Emergency Department settings. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including a weekend requirement of every other weekend. The nurse will float between two inpatient psychiatric units.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients with various psychological conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and substance use issues.
• Implement treatment plans and document patient progress accurately.
• Administer medications and manage medication delivery methods.
• Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors.
• Precept new nurses during their orientation.
• Attend monthly Unit-based Aggressive Patient Management training as required.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license with a minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health.
• Completion of at least one travel assignment is required.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) preferred.
• Experience in a 1:6 patient care ratio, with a daytime staffing ratio of 1:1.

Skills Required

• Proficient in the care of patients with conditions such as bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and PTSD.
• Ability to manage aggressive behaviors and implement seclusion protocols when necessary.
• Skilled in behavior management techniques and psychoeducation.
• Strong communication skills for interpreting and relaying lab values and patient status.
• IV initiation and maintenance, along with blood glucose monitoring.

Patient Demographics

Experience with a diverse patient population, including those with:

• Alcohol and drug abuse issues
• Mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis
• History of self-harm or suicidal behavior
• Trauma, including physical or sexual abuse cases

Scrubs are not provided, and the required color is navy.
