Registered Nurse (RN) - Behavioral Health

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for our Behavioral Health unit. This position involves working with adult and geriatric patients experiencing a range of mental health diagnoses.

Job Details

• Target Ratios: 1:7
• Shift: Night shift, 18:45 - 07:15
• Hours: 36-48 hours per week available
• Contracts: 13-week contracts or longer accepted
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Float Requirement: Possible floating to med-surg units

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will be responsible for:

• Providing comprehensive nursing care in a locked inpatient unit
• Administering medications and managing patient behaviors
• Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure effective treatment plans
• Monitoring patient vital signs and managing crises with de-escalation techniques
• Utilizing seclusion protocols and physical hold techniques when necessary
• Participating in psychoeducation and therapy sessions

Required Skills, Certifications, and Experience

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Experience with substance use, anxiety disorders, and various mental health diagnoses
• Experience as a traveler is accepted
• Certification in Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Proficiency in medication administration, blood glucose monitoring, and interpretation of lab values
• Ability to perform wound care and behavior management techniques

Preferred Skills

• Experience with congenital and developmental disorders
• Ability to start and maintain IVs

Unit Information

The Behavioral Health unit operates over two floors, with nursing staff rotating between them. Team members are expected to work across varying levels of acuity. Support staff, including psych techs, assist with patient monitoring and milieu management. Clinical nursing support is available 24/7, and a therapy team conducts group sessions seven days a week.

Orientation

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation comprising 32 hours. The first week includes hospital orientation, and all new staff must be available for classes each day.

Uniform

Scrubs should be navy blue.
