Psychiatric Nursing Job Details

  • Healthcare Setting: Behavioral Health and Alcohol & Chemical Treatment units

  • Contract Duration: 12 weeks, through January 18, 2027
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts, 5:00 p.m.–5:00 a.m.
  • Weekend Schedule: Rotating weekends

  • Attire: Navy scrubs

Psychiatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible to practice in Utah
  • At least 1 year of recent nursing experience, preferably in psychiatric nursing, behavioral health, detoxification, or substance use treatment settings
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
  • Strong patient assessment, communication, therapeutic communication, and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care in a behavioral health environment
  • Experience providing trauma-informed care is preferred

Behavioral Health Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients in behavioral health, psychiatric, and detoxification settings
  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments and monitor changes in patient condition
  • Administer medications safely and accurately according to orders and facility policy
  • Perform glucose checks and monitor laboratory results
  • Support patient safety through therapeutic communication, patient observation, and crisis prevention techniques
  • Collaborate with behavioral health professionals, nursing staff, and support personnel to coordinate patient care
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Demonstrate patience, kindness, professionalism, and respect in every patient interaction
