Psychiatric Registered Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
• At least 2 years of inpatient psychiatric nursing or behavioral health nursing experience
• Experience caring for patients across a range of acuity levels, from low acuity to high acuity
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Handle with Care certification or the ability to obtain it as required
• Comfort caring for patients ranging from approximately age 8 through older adulthood, including patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those receiving physical rehabilitation services
• Travel assignment eligibility requires living at least 50 miles from the worksite

Behavioral Health RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients in an inpatient psychiatric and behavioral health setting
• Complete patient assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient responses
• Support adolescents, adults, and seniors with a variety of psychiatric and behavioral health needs
• Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition, behavior, and acuity
• Promote a therapeutic, structured, and respectful environment for patients and their families
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to support treatment goals and safe transitions of care
• Float to other units as needed, including units serving patients with differing acuity levels, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and physical rehabilitation needs
• Follow established patient safety, de-escalation, and behavioral health care protocols
