Description:
Provides professional nursing care to patients in a correctional facility.
Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients.
Makes nursing rounds and takes vital signs.
Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatments.
Monitors patients on a timely basis, especially those in restraint.
Provides immediate medical attention in emergencies.
Counsels patients regarding the need for medical referrals.
Participates in staff development and education.
Reviews care plans written by staff.
Trains and orients new employees.
Evaluates care needed for bedridden patients and executes care plans.
Administers medication including narcotics as necessary.
Performs specialized procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, and CPR.
Organizes and oversees emergency response teams.
Acts as lead worker in charge of assigned shifts when required.
Performs clerical tasks, charts and records all medical information.
Completes required reports and documents necessary information.
Orders supplies and maintains inventory of controlled substances.
Arranges outpatient clinic appointments and medical examinations.
Serves as a liaison within the organization and participates in meetings.
Demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing procedures and regulations.
Possesses skills in the operation of medical equipment.
Is able to write accurate reports and gather information effectively.
Demonstrates physical fitness required for the role.
