Travel Nurse RN - Psych - $2,338 per week in The Bronx, NY

Provide direct nursing care to adult psychiatric patients (18+) presenting with diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, substance abuse, depression, borderline personality disorder, and intellectual disabilities. Manage CPAP/BiPAP equipment as needed; initiate consults and coordinate transfer for patients requiring a higher level of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to adult psychiatric patients (18+) presenting with diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, substance abuse, depression, borderline personality disorder, and intellectual disabilities
• Administer IM injections and perform phlebotomy as needed; no IV administration on this unit
• Utilize CPI de-escalation techniques to manage patient behavior; apply physical restraints (4-point, leather) only when necessary and per protocol
• Manage CPAP/BiPAP equipment as needed; initiate consults and coordinate transfer for patients requiring a higher level of care
• May be placed in a charge nurse role, managing up to 5-6 patients while supporting unit operations
• Float to adolescent or adult psychiatric units as needed; travelers are first to float

Required Qualifications

• Active RN licensure in New York (or compact equivalent, if applicable)
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• PALS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience
• Minimum 6 months of prior medical/surgical experience (e.g., MS, MS-Tele, PCU, ICU, or ER)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• BSN degree preferred
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred; on-site training may be available
• Prior experience with physical restraint application in a psychiatric setting
• Experience with CPAP/BiPAP management
