The Registered Professional Staff Nurse is responsible for providing individualized quality patient care. Assess patient needs through data collection. Design, implement, and continuously evaluate the plan of care. Collaborate with all members of the treatment team. Perform related duties as assigned. May be assigned to any inpatient unit to meet patient care needs. Upon admission, complete Nursing Admission Assessment. Identify strengths, weaknesses, and problems. Develop ITP considering patient age, disability, ethnicity, culture, and religion. Administer medication and treatment accurately and according to policies and procedures. Assess the effect of medication on the patient. Attend multidisciplinary Treatment Planning conferences for assigned patients. Work collaboratively with treatment team members to achieve identified goals. Ensure patient care is provided in accordance with the Master Treatment Plan. Understand and implement hospital-wide policies, procedures, regulations, and standards. Operate within professional scope of practice. Effectively collaborate with the treatment team. Support patient plans for continuing care. Assess learning needs and barriers to learning of patients and families. Document assessments appropriately. Provide age-appropriate learning opportunities and document teaching and outcomes. Supply educational materials that are appropriate for patient/family needs. Provide input to the Unit Director regarding unit-based performance improvement measures. Participate in unit performance improvement activities through accurate data collection. Maintain a safe and orderly work/patient care environment. Report all environmental and safety hazards immediately. Handle and dispose of infectious and hazardous materials as per policies. Review assigned patient charts for new orders at the beginning of each shift. Transcribe, review, and co-sign medication orders within procedural time limits. Document adverse reactions and unusual incidents using appropriate reports. Use approved hospital abbreviations for charting at all times. Document patient information within medical records accurately and within procedural time limits. Participate in the orientation of new personnel and students as assigned to the unit. Identify one patient problem, strength, and intervention within 24 hours of admission. Attend Treatment Planning Conferences as scheduled. Review the Master Treatment Plan weekly and revise as warranted by the patient’s condition. Plan and conduct nursing psycho-educational groups as per unit schedule. Meet all requirements for annual IV re-certification if applicable. Model professional standards of behavior.
