**Exciting Travel Psychiatric Nurse Opportunity in Kansas City!**
- **Position:** Travel RN - Adult Psychiatric (656)
- **Shift:** 7 PM - 7 AM
- **Guaranteed Hours:** 48 hours per week
- **Start Date:** December 14
**Unit Specifics:**
- **Patient Demographics:**
- ADOL Unit: Ages 12-18 (18 beds)
- Serenity: Lower acuity adult unit (24 beds)
- ITU: Higher acuity adult unit focused on thought disorder diagnoses (32 beds)
- SRAD: Patients living a senior lifestyle (16 beds)
- VINE: Lower acuity adult unit (9 beds)
- **Patient Ratios:**
- Nurses: 8 to 1
- Mental Health Technicians: 12 to 1
- **Documentation:** Meditech
- **Scheduling Requirements:**
- Coverage for three 12-hour shifts daily, seven days a week (weekends included)
- Days off not guaranteed unless specified in the contract
- **Floating Policy:** C/L utilized based on greatest need
**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Patient Assessment:**
- Assess mental health status, recognizing signs of psychiatric disorders, substance use, and behavioral issues
- Take thorough patient histories and observe behavior
- **Care Planning:**
- Develop individualized care plans tailored to patient needs
- Set goals, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes
- **Medication Management:**
- Administer psychiatric medications
- Monitor for side effects and adverse reactions
- **Crisis Intervention:**
- Provide immediate support to patients in crisis (e.g., suicidal ideation, aggression)
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and appropriate medication management
- **Therapeutic Communication:**
- Build trust and rapport with patients through effective communication and empathy
- **Monitoring:**
- Observe patients for physical and psychological symptoms, including vital signs and medication effects
**Certifications Required:**
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
**Dress Code:**
- Nurses: Blue scrubs
- MHTs: Green or black scrubs
