Utilizing the nursing process in accordance with hospital standards and unit policies/procedures is essential for monitoring and evaluating patient functional status. The nurse utilizes the nursing process to care for patients. Assessment, organization, and completion of patient care consider patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors. Documentation of steps of the nursing process is required. Proper medical terminology must be utilized to address problems and progress toward goals. Facilitation of patient discharge through timely, appropriate referrals and utilization of patient education resources is necessary. This should be suitable to patient age and cultural/psychosocial factors. Collaboration with other disciplines, as appropriate, is expected. Supporting unit and hospital goals through performance improvement and educational activities is important. This is evidenced by attending in-services, meeting unit education standards, and completing variance reports. Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review during final stages is necessary. The nurse coordinates the activities of others but does not supervise. Leaders work directly with patients and/or customers. There are interactions with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face communication. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals and staff is required. Frequent interaction with individuals at the director level or above is expected.
