Patients remain in the same bed for the duration of their stay. All beds have hemodynamic monitoring capability, including EKG, invasive and non-invasive pressure, and cardiac output monitoring. Telemetry monitoring is available throughout the facility. Specialty equipment is moved in and out as needed, and monitoring and nursing care scale up or down based on patient needs. Patients typically have a primary cardiac, thoracic, or vascular diagnosis or procedure. Many patients experience related conditions such as diabetes, renal disease, and pulmonary disease. The care provided encompasses most body systems. Registered Nurses new to this unit receive generous education and mentoring to successfully care for patients. There is a track for progression to critical care nursing available for those who choose to pursue it. The RN is responsible for performing assessments, developing a plan of care, implementing and evaluating care. The RN administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians in accordance with current clinical nursing practice. The RN is responsible for directing, monitoring, and evaluating the care delegated to non-licensed personnel. As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, the RN works collaboratively to ensure the safe and accurate delivery of care. Flexible schedules are available to cover all shifts and weekends as needed.
