Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Telemetry skills required Description: This position requires managing the business of the day within a tight-knit nursing team. Candidates must pass a written exam during orientation, which is open book. The RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for both day and night shifts. Common patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA, respiratory issues, and subdural hematoma. Common medications administered include PCA pumps, cardizem, and insulin. The unit provides care for adult and pediatric patients, who are typically 15 years and older. Staffing may involve floating to medical-surgical areas based on the highest need. The unit emphasizes hourly rounding and responsiveness to patient needs. A supportive environment includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, educators, care managers, social workers, dieticians, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Successful candidates will demonstrate collaboration and a willingness to assist fellow team members. Compliance with infection control policies, including a fingernail policy, is mandatory. Candidates must show they possess the required competencies to care for patients effectively. Child and family care are integrated into practice, ensuring quality support for all patients.
