Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown/Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ONS/ONCC preferred Must-Have: Chemotherapy certification preferred, not required Strong PCU experience preferred Description: Unit provides care for adult oncology and trauma patients. The primary focus is on providing high-quality patient care. RNs are expected to pass a clinical exam during orientation. There is an open book exam based on skills learned. A score of 90% is required to pass. Failure to pass the exam will result in contract termination. Nurses must adhere to a strict fingernail policy; artificial nails are prohibited. Refusal to remove artificial nails will lead to termination of contract. Travelers float to other Med/Surg and PCU units as necessary. Float assignments will remain at the same level of care. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:4 to 1:5 days and nights. RNs must occasionally titrate insulin and Cardizem drips. Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, and protonix. High-flow respiratory equipment is commonly used on this unit. Team members include nursing assistants, a charge nurse, and case managers. Hourly rounding and bedside shift report are essential for patient experience. The team values nurses who genuinely care for patients and embrace teamwork. Diversity in the patient population is a key aspect of the care provided. Compassion is fundamental in caring for patients through diagnosis, treatment, and remission. The hospital has a cancellation policy that allows for shifts to be canceled. Charting is conducted using an electronic medical record system.
