Description:
Unit provides care for adult oncology and trauma patients.
The primary focus is on providing high-quality patient care.
RNs are expected to pass a clinical exam during orientation.
There is an open book exam based on skills learned.
A score of 90% is required to pass.
Failure to pass the exam will result in contract termination.
Nurses must adhere to a strict fingernail policy; artificial nails are prohibited.
Refusal to remove artificial nails will lead to termination of contract.
Travelers float to other Med/Surg and PCU units as necessary.
Float assignments will remain at the same level of care.
The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:4 to 1:5 days and nights.
RNs must occasionally titrate insulin and Cardizem drips.
Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, and protonix.
High-flow respiratory equipment is commonly used on this unit.
Team members include nursing assistants, a charge nurse, and case managers.
Hourly rounding and bedside shift report are essential for patient experience.
