Job Title: PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years experience required License: RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Competency in Arterial Lines Ability to titrate drips such as Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Insulin Strong communication skills Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse on a PCU stepdown unit. The unit consists of 40 beds with an average daily census of 24 patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac medical/surgical, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, respiratory conditions, strokes, post-stent, post-pacer placements, and renal failure. Registered Nurses are required to titrate IV medications and read and interpret telemetry strips. A Charge Nurse is available on each shift and takes an assignment. Patient care technicians are present on the unit, with a ratio of 1:12. The unit utilizes various respiratory therapy equipment, including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow systems. Nurses must be flexible, adaptable, and willing to learn. Team players with good communication skills will be successful in this role. The patient population served includes diverse cultural groups, with a focus on experience and care. Minimum requirements include working every other weekend and two holidays during the contract. Floating to med-surge or ICU as needed is required. Scrub color is navy blue. The unit emphasizes patient experience scores, responsiveness, and clear communication regarding medications.
