Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 or 18 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years in Step Down or Progressive Care Unit License: Active state RN license or compact license Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Ventilator experience - Epic experience - Experience managing cardiac telemetry and drips - Ability to read and interpret EKG strips Description: This is a winter job position available for a 13- or 18-week contract. Candidates must be available to work at a minimum every other holiday. Unit is trialing a team nursing model where two nurses and a Patient Care Technician partner together to care for a group of patients. The goal of this model is to divide the work without dividing the patients, ultimately improving both workload and patient care. Nurses may function in either team nursing or primary nursing depending on the status of the trial. Targeted patient ratios are 1:4 but can be up to 1:5 or 1:6. Candidates must pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting the assignment. Nurses will be fitted for N95 prior to working unless PAPR is needed. Travel experience is preferred. Travelers may float to other units according to the needs of the organization. If floating, suitable assignments will be provided based on the patient's medical needs. Candidates must be available to work every other weekend and holiday. Unit cares for patients primarily with COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, Flu, Sepsis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, and Post COVID. The role involves working with telemetry, drips, and ventilators. With support from respiratory therapists, the team manages patients requiring tracheostomy care, ventilation, and high-oxygen therapies. Knowledge of insulin and heparin drip protocols is essential. Interdisciplinary support is available from various services including respiratory, pharmacy, and physical therapy. Candidates should be comfortable with floating and flexible in adapting to different clinical environments.
