Description:
The Intermediate Care unit is a critical care step-down unit dedicated to providing exceptional, evidence-based care to patients.
Patients are received from various areas, including the Emergency Department, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit, and medical-surgical floors.
The patient population consists of adult, acute care patients who require specialized care.
All patients have continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring.
Care includes airway management, acute BIPAP support, and management of arterial and central lines.
Nursing staff must be vigilant and provide compassionate care using a multidisciplinary approach.
The unit encompasses a range of patient diagnoses, predominantly focusing on pulmonary patients.
Daily census typically involves around 17 patients.
The unit has a total of 18 beds and is supported by interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and Pharmacy.
Candidates should have experience in telemetry and management of dysrhythmias.
Knowledge of IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care is required.
Ability to manage non-invasive airway equipment and isolation precautions is essential.
Various nursing skills such as care of ventilated patients and management of chest tubes are necessary for this role.
