Description:
This position offers 48 hours guaranteed per week.
The unit has 18 beds with a patient ratio of 1:4-5.
The staffing includes 2 Patient Care Technicians and 1 Unit Secretary.
Common equipment used includes Alaris pumps, Kangaroo pump, Pxysis, and computers available in every room.
Documentation system utilized is Meditech.
The schedule allows for self-scheduling, including 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks.
There are no on-call requirements.
Floating policy is in place where travelers are floated first, then PRN staff, followed by the date last floated.
The focus is on improving nurses' courtesy and respect, emphasizing teamwork in patient care.
The unit specializes in patients with moderate physiologic instability requiring support.
Examples of patient conditions include COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF, and trach patients.
Patients are hemodynamically stable and require cardiac and respiratory monitoring and management every 2-4 hours.
Care in this unit is a step down from intensive care but requires more attention than a medical/surgical unit.
Procedures performed on the unit include oxygen therapy utilizing:
Nasal Cannula, BIPAP/CPAP, and AirVo.
Nursing interventions need to be performed at least every 3-4 hours, including vital signs monitored every 4 hours.
Continuous cardiac monitoring is a part of patient care.
Blood glucose monitoring and neurological assessments are also required at specified intervals.
The required dress code is royal blue.
Unit-specific policies and guidelines can be referenced in unit standards of care.
