Patients admitted to the unit are stable but have a high potential of becoming unstable.

Examples of patients include those with cardiac diagnoses, pre/post cardiac artery bypass surgery, carotid endarterectomy, Acute Myocardial Infarction, post pacemaker insertion, arrhythmia detection, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and other similar disease processes. The patient-to-nurse ratio shall not exceed 1:4. Candidates must be willing to float to other units as needed. Holiday coverage will be required.
