Description:
This position requires a registered nurse to provide care in a step-down environment.
Experience in a 1:5 patient ratio is required.
ICU experience does not count toward the necessary requirements for this role.
The unit is trialing a team nursing approach where nurses and patient care technicians work together to care for a group of patients.
Nurses may function in either team nursing or primary nursing, depending on the trial status.
Targeted patient ratios are typically 1:4 but can be up to 1:5 to 1:6.
Candidates must pass an online EKG competency assessment before starting.
The patient population primarily includes individuals with COPD, CHF, pneumonia, flu, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and post-COVID conditions.
Support from respiratory therapy is available for patients requiring trach care, ventilators, BiPAP, and high oxygen requirements.
Experience with insulin, heparin, and cardiac drips is essential.
Nurses must be comfortable floating to other units as needed.
Availability for every other weekend and holiday is required.
Travelers are expected to follow facility policies regarding cancellations due to low census.
Interdisciplinary support includes respiratory services, physical therapy, and social services, among others.
The patient care model emphasizes teamwork and effective collaboration.
Navy blue scrubs are required for this position.
