The unit has a significant cardiac patient population. The staff-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Weekend requirements are as needed and rotational. Floating to like units may be required based on facility needs. There is no on-call requirement. Block scheduling is case by case. Pre-approved time off is limited to one request per contract. Patient demographics include adults and geriatrics. The average daily census is 38 patients. The unit has 55 beds. Interdisciplinary support is provided by various services including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Patient diagnoses include congestive heart failure and myocardial infarction. Experience with cardiac telemetry and management of cardiac drips is necessary. Skills required include the management of central lines and feeding tubes, as well as proficiency in non-invasive airway management. The position requires the interpretation of dysrhythmias and adherence to isolation precautions. Wound care and telemetry monitoring are part of the responsibilities. Additional procedural skills may be required.
