Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 Years License: VA License Pending Accepted Certifications: BLS Required, ACLS Preferred Must-Have: Epic Experience Description: This position involves working in an acute and intermediate care unit for surgical patients. Surgical patients are admitted for various complex procedures. The nurse-patient ratio is 4 or 5:1 in acute care and 3:1 in intermediate care. The unit includes a total of 28 beds with 22 designated for acute care and 6 for intermediate care. The intermediate care unit caters to patients who require more advanced monitoring. Patients may be admitted directly from recovery or transferred from intensive care. The unit is capable of accommodating patients on select cardiac medications and monitoring. Staff will work every other weekend and every other holiday. Additional time off requests can be accommodated to a limited extent. BLS certification is mandatory, and ACLS certification is preferred. Candidates must adhere to float policies as required. Experience with Epic is necessary for this role. The ideal candidate will have a background in telemetry and emergency management protocols. Patient populations may include those recovering from surgeries involving the heart and lungs. The unit will actively participate in various interdisciplinary support services. The care team provides management for acute heart failure and aggressive insulin therapies. Special equipment may include arterial lines, chest tubes, and ECG monitoring devices. Healthcare professionals are expected to maintain a high standard of patient care and safety. This role requires effective communication and collaboration within the healthcare team. Prior experience in a high-acuity setting is highly valued.
