The unit operates similarly to an ICU with varying patient acuity levels. Nurses will care for patients who have undergone post rapid response interventions or are experiencing respiratory distress. Candidates should be comfortable managing unstable hemodynamics and withdrawal symptoms. Patients may include those with GI bleeds, post-operative conditions, and complications related to obstetrics. Staffing ratios are maintained at 1:3-4 patients per nurse. Float to sister units will be required as needed. Weekends will be part of the rotation every other week. Nurses must demonstrate proficiency in telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation. Only one vasopressor may be administered per patient; additional requirements necessitate ICU transfer. Bedside telemetry monitors are used for continuous patient monitoring. Overall, this role combines direct patient care with critical thinking and quick decision-making skills.
