Description:
Stepdown nurses are required for a true stepdown unit with telemetry and cardiac intervention capabilities.
The unit includes 20 telemetry beds, 16 cardiac intervention beds, and 8 overflow telemetry beds.
Ratios are maintained at 1:3 or 1:4 based on patient acuity.
The charting system used is Cerner.
Charge nurses do not manage patients.
Nurse aides are present at a ratio of 1 per every 12 patients, with a full unit having 3 aides.
Weekend requirements include working every other weekend, rotating between Friday/Saturday nights and Saturday/Sunday days.
Holiday coverage also follows an every other holiday rotation.
Scrub color is navy.
Telemetry monitoring utilizes Phillips monitors; nurses must be able to read and interpret strips.
Monitor technicians are available.
Mechanical ventilation is not provided, but CPAP, BIPAP, and high-flow oxygen are used.
Clientists and intensivists are on-site 24/7.
An IV team is present during regular hours, and respiratory therapy is available 24/7.
Pharmacy services operate around the clock.
Shifts include 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 3:00 AM, and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM.
Common diagnoses include post-catheterization patients, post-TEE, post-cardioversion, ablations, AICD cases, and patients requiring external temporary pacing.
Patients may have chest tubes, tube feedings, and various drains.
Nurses must be proficient with medication drips, including amiodarone, cardizem, nitroglycerin, pressors, dopamine, insulin, and heparin.
Cancellation policy allows for the possibility of up to 4 shifts being canceled during a 13-week assignment.
The unit requires experienced stepdown nurses, not medical telemetry nurses.
