Job Title: Med Surg/PCU/Tele RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Med Surg/PCU/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience - Experience with drips and home trach vents - Willingness to learn about vents Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a stepdown unit focusing on neuro trauma. The unit has 28 beds. Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night, depending on patient acuity. Common diagnoses include strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, and trauma orthopedic injuries. The nurse will be expected to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, and Insulin. There are nurse aids available on the unit, with ratios of 1:9 during the day and 1:12 at night. Respiratory equipment on the unit includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and Vapo therm. RNs are responsible for reading their own telemetry strips using central monitors located in a different area. Self-scheduling is utilized with managerial oversight to ensure balance. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Holiday requirements typically include 2 to 3 holidays during winter and otherwise every other holiday. Floating may be required to sister medical-surgical units across various specialties. Dress code requires the wearing of solid color scrubs. Orientation includes one shift of general orientation and one shift with a preceptor. All clinicians must clock in and out during their shifts.
