Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience License: Valid state nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips. Experience with titrating drips such as cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax. Description: The unit consists of 30 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-6 depending on acuity. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cath lab, seizures, and ETOH. CIWA protocols and management of pacemakers are also part of the care provided. RNs are expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as BiPap, Airvo, and trachs. Respiratory Therapists are available 24/7 and are responsible for administering breathing treatments. Monitor Techs are present 24/7, but RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips. Nurses will be required to print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms. There is a charge nurse on each shift. The charge nurse typically does not take a patient assignment unless necessary on day shifts, while night shifts will have a lighter patient assignment. Patient Care Techs assist with activities of daily living, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugars. RNs may be asked to float to any inpatient unit as needed. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Holiday rotation may be required. Scrub color is navy blue. Two-day general orientation followed by one day with a preceptor is provided. No call or standby requirement is expected.
