Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardiac/Intermediate Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS Must-Have: Must have PCU/Stepdown/Tele experience. No first-time travelers. Must have one successfully completed assignment. Prefer experience with TAVR and CABG. Travelers need experience with all titratable and set rate drips: amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, dopamine, heparin, nitro, and insulin. Description: Start dates are not flexible. The department has a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 during the day and 1:5 at night. Patients may include a mix of medical-surgical and PCU patients. Common diagnoses include CHF, NSTEMI, MI, heart block, pacemaker management, TAVR, CABG recovery, and post-surgical care. The unit has a cardiac focus. Charge nurses are free of assignment and usually do not take patients unless in rare circumstances. Patient care techs are present, with 8-12 patients per individual nurse. RNs are required to troubleshoot equipment such as BiPAP and high-flow oxygen but not to perform extensive procedures. RNs are required to read telemetry strips; however, there is a dedicated monitor tech. There is some flexibility in scheduling with charge nurses considering requests to balance unit needs. The weekend requirement is for four weekend days per month. Holiday commitment is three out of five holidays. Low census may lead to call or standby requirements. Floating may be required within the patient population and medical-surgical floors. Scrub color is navy blue. There is one shift of unit-specific orientation and one session for clinical education. Cancellation policy allows for the client to cancel hours equivalent to the weekly guaranteed hours for the assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required. Trauma Level is 2.
