Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS recommended Must-Have: ICU/Intermediate experience with a nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1 or 2 to 1. Experience with trach and ventilator patients. Ability to titrate drips. Description: The Stepdown Care Unit has 20 beds, including 8 private rooms and semi-private rooms. Nurse to patient ratios are 3:1. The unit cares for patients with a broad range of medical conditions, including COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions. Some neuro, surgical, and cardiac patients are also present. Common procedures include managing BiPap, C-PAP, face mask ventilation, tracheostomies, chest tubes, G-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines. Travel RNs must have demonstrated ICU or Intermediate nursing skills. Registered Nurses will be required to titrate drips such as Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose Vasopressors. Charge Nurses are available, and they may take patient assignments if staffing is not ideal. There are two Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per shift, with each responsible for 10 patients if the unit is full. All patients are monitored using Philips Monitors, with Tele techs interpreting strips while RNs confirm findings. Shifts are 12 hours from 7 PM to 7 AM, with block scheduling accommodated when possible. Every other weekend and holiday shifts are required. Travel RNs will float as needed to other Stepdown or General Medicine units based on their experience level. The dress code is flexible, allowing any color scrubs.
