Travelers should have a robust cardiac background. Cardiac drips experience is required, including: Insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin. No ventilator patients will be present. Heart transplant and LVAD experience is preferred, with training available if needed. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 to 1:5. Expect high patient acuity, frequent admissions and discharges, and significant procedural volume. Common patient populations include: Heart Failure, Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Supraventricular Tachycardia, Ventricular Tachycardia, Ventricular Fibrillation, Fluid Volume Overload, Chest Pain, Hypertension, Heart Transplant Patients, Congenital Heart Disease, and LVAD Patients. Common procedures performed in this unit include: Right & Left Heart Catheterizations, TR Band Management, Sheath Removal/Management, Stent Placement, Valve Replacement Procedures, STEMI/NSTEMI Care, Pacemakers, ICDs, Cardioversions, Ablations, and Groin Site Management. Travelers may float to similar cardiac/PCU units as needed. Comfort with cardiac acuity, telemetry requirements, and procedures is essential before accepting this assignment.
