Must-Have:
Strong cardiac background
Ability to independently interpret cardiac rhythms
Chest tube experience
Rating of "4" on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
Description:
This position is for a registered nurse specializing in step-down care.
The unit focuses on high-acuity, heavily cardiac-focused patients.
Travelers must have a robust cardiac background.
Experience with telemetry is required.
Travelers should be comfortable with frequent admissions and discharges.
The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 to 1:5.
Expect high patient acuity and significant procedural volume.
Common cardiac drips include insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, lasix, and nitroglycerin.
Previous experience with heart transplant and LVAD patients is preferred, but training is available if needed.
Common patient populations include heart failure, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and chest pain.
Common procedures involve catheterizations, stent placements, and pacemakers.
Travelers may float to similar cardiac/PCU units as needed.
They will not float to a cardiac monitor tech role.
Ensure comfort with cardiac acuity, telemetry requirements, and procedures before accepting the assignment.
