Travelers are expected to float throughout the zone they are assigned to, which encompasses a specified distance from the city center. Schedules are released 4-6 weeks in advance, with two potential formats for work assignments: scheduled at a single facility or assigned just-in-time before shift start. The unit handles various specialties including General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, and more. Nurse-to-patient ratios will vary between 1:3-4 depending on patient acuity. Designated charge nurses may have a small patient assignment if necessary. Assistive staff members like nurse aids are available to support care. Shifts typically run from 7 PM to 7 AM, with weekend requirements ranging from 6-9 shifts in a 6-week schedule. Travelers are expected to be flexible to fill gaps in the permanent scheduling team and may be asked to rotate through holiday shifts. Units may include ICU holds at low acuity, PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele. Common titratable and/or set-rate drips include dopamine, dobutamine, cardizem, amio, ativan, insulin, and heparin.
