Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Common diagnoses/types of patients include post MI with sheath pull, ADHS, postop vascular, GI bleed, and DKA. RNs are required to titrate drips. Typical titratable drips include nitroglycerine up to 150 mcg/kg/min, neo up to 100 mcg/min, and Cardene up to 10 mg/hr. Both charge nurses and house supervisors are available, with charge nurses not taking a team under normal circumstances. There is one patient care technician per shift. Ventilators, BiPap, and Cpap are utilized in the unit. Telemetry is available for all patients, and RNs read strips. Scheduling does not promise self-scheduling, which is currently being evaluated. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, while holiday requirements equate to approximately every other holiday. No call or standby requirement. Floating is required as necessary. Scrub colors include royal blue, with undershirts allowed in white, royal blue, or black. Unit orientation is specific to the department. Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract.
