Description:
A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe and effective patient and family-centered care.
Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are essential.
The RN is responsible for maintaining a financially stable unit.
The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education.
This is supported by a practice governance framework.
The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The RN applies the caring processes from the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care.
The RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
Focus is placed on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
The RN applies educational and professional experiences in delivering quality care.
Mentoring and precepting staff is an integral part of the role.
Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments and reassessments according to policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
Demonstrate the ability to make sound independent decisions.
Initiate, prioritize, and implement the plan of care.
Review and revise the plan as indicated.
Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services.
Utilize resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patients, and families.
Monitor and document responses to clinical interventions.
Facilitate, coordinate, provide, and evaluate education specific to patient and family needs.
Delegate tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
Function as a mentor and preceptor.
Encourage and facilitate teamwork.
Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.
Participate in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts.
Implement practice changes and comply with regulatory standards.
Participate in the practice governance model.
