Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Intermediate Care Unit (Stepdown) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day/Night Rotate Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid unexpired driver's license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips, experience with titrating drips, familiarity with managing intermediate care patients Description: The unit consists of 30 beds, including 14 private and 16 semi-private rooms. The patient-to-nurse ratio goal is 1:4, but it typically runs at 1:5 and may occasionally reach 1:6. Charge nurses maintain a full patient assignment during both day and night shifts. The unit usually has 2-3 nurse aides assisting with patient care, with a ratio of 1:10-12. Staff must be flexible with weekend scheduling, typically requiring 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule. Holiday shifts may be required, but permanent staff usually cover them. Registered nurses are expected to wear navy blue scrubs and jackets. Telemetry technicians assist with monitoring, but registered nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips. Registered nurses are responsible for titrating multiple types of infusions, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, and Heparin. Respiratory care equipment is managed by a dedicated respiratory therapy team available 24/7. An in-house IV team is also available to perform all IV starts around the clock. The pharmacy operates 24/7, providing necessary medications through a dispensing system. Self-scheduling is allowed as long as unit needs are met, and staff can request up to 4 days off each month. Floating to other areas of the facility may be required, with potential ratios of 1:6 or up to 1:7 in medical-surgical units. Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, heart failure, arrhythmias, and pre/post cardiac catheterization care. Attending to patients on Tikosyn therapy is also part of the nursing responsibilities. Attendance policies are strict, with no tolerance for tardiness or call-offs.
