Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intermediate Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours per shift, weekends as scheduled Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays Description: Unit Notes: There is a 50-mile radius rule for submissions. Licensing hits must be disclosed at the time of submission. This is an Intermediate Care Unit with 30 beds, including private and semi-private rooms. Certification requirements include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. The RN-to-patient ratio goal is 1:4, but is usually 1:5, and may occasionally reach 1:6. Charge nurses take a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts. There will usually be 2-3 certified nursing assistants with ratios of 1:10-12. Weekend work requires 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule. Holidays require flexibility for scheduling, although permanent staff usually cover holiday shifts. Nursing staff are required to wear navy blue scrubs. Nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips, although there are telemetry technicians on staff. Registered Nurses (RNs) should be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, and Heparin. Respiratory equipment is managed by respiratory therapy staff. There is a hospitalist on-site 24/7, along with an intensivist in the ICU. An intravenous team is available 24/7 for IV starts and management. Regular pharmacy services are also available around the clock. Nurses must be available for shifts, ready to go by 6:45 AM/PM. Self-scheduling is permitted as long as unit needs are met. Staff are allowed 4 requested days off per month. All staff may be required to float to other units as needed. Orientation consists of one day with HR followed by two days on the unit with a preceptor. Common diagnoses include chest pain, risk of myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, post-pacemaker care, and pre/post catheterization patients. The cancellation policy is strict, with no tolerance for attendance issues including tardiness and call-offs. Charting is completed in the EPIC system. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required for this position.
