Description:
The position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in stepdown care.
Candidates must be familiar with managing patient care in a progressive care unit.
The unit has a total of 55 beds focused primarily on adult patients.
Common patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weakness.
The RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for both day and night shifts.
Shifts are 12 hours long, operating from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630.
Weekend shifts are required every other weekend.
Nursing Assistant support is available on the unit.
A charge nurse will be present during shifts to oversee operations.
Staffing may require floating to medical-surgical areas based on patient needs.
Patient experience challenges focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness.
Qualities for success in this role include strong teamwork and the ability to manage day-to-day responsibilities effectively.
Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas.
Candidates must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation with a score of 90% to remain in the position.
The unit offers additional support staff, including educators, care managers, social workers, dieticians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists.
Common medications used include PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, and insulin.
Familiarity with electronic medical records, specifically EPIC, is required.
Mechanical lifts are available in every other room to assist with patient mobility.
The unit fosters a tight-knit community, with team members helping one another.
Staff cancellations may occur, with a maximum of four shifts able to be canceled during the assignment.
