The nursing ratio during shifts is 1:4-5 for medical-surgical telemetry and 1:3 for PCU patients. Pediatric patients are rarely cared for in this unit and will typically be managed by permanent staff. Experience with infection prevention protocols and fall prevention is essential. The required skills include interpreting dysrhythmias, using rapid response teams, and managing various types of IV lines. Additional responsibilities involve blood product administration, central line management, and managing cardiac drips. The position may require floating to other units of equivalent or lower acuity.
