Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Oncology PCU Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Overall 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience License: Must hold a valid nursing license Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Must-Have: High acuity PCU patient experience Description: The position involves providing care in a progressive care unit focused on medical oncology. The unit has a high acuity of PCU patients and a small number of medical-surgical cases. Patient conditions include solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology. The nursing ratio during shifts is 1:4-5 for medical-surgical telemetry and 1:3 for PCU patients. Pediatric patients are rarely cared for in this unit and will typically be managed by permanent staff. Experience with infection prevention protocols and fall prevention is essential. The required skills include interpreting dysrhythmias, using rapid response teams, and managing various types of IV lines. Additional responsibilities involve blood product administration, central line management, and managing cardiac drips. The position may require floating to other units of equivalent or lower acuity. Candidates should possess skills in the administration of chemotherapy and wound care. Staff will have opportunities for professional growth and development within the organization.
